We worked with iconic New Zealand underwear brand, Bendon, to create a new retail strategy for their growing Outlet business. In a deliberate move away from the existing operational model, where stores are modeled on a version of their high street siblings, this prototype store was created to celebrate and accentuate the nature of the Outlet experience.
High volume, high turn-over and low prices led us to an approach which more analogous to a supermarket than a boutique. Deliveries are unpacked and processed on the shop floor before being transferred to the flexible wardrobe system which lines the store walls. Entire wardrobes of product were designed to be closed off pending the launch of special offers and a versatile signage system was adapted to enable fast and impactful promotion turn-arounds.
This cost-effective process-driven model was tied back to the Bendon brand values through considered use of soft hues and washed plywood surfaces.
